One person arrested, child suffered non-life threatening injuries
(ST. PAUL, Ind.) -- Decatur County deputies responded to the Love's Truck Stop in St. Paul for a report of shooting on Saturday night.
When police arrived they found a 10-year-old boy who was receiving medical care for a gunshot wound.
Deputies identified David Gray, of Cincinnati, as the person who was in possession of the gun.
Gray said he had the firearm in the waistband of his pants, and it discharged when he pulled his pants up, police said.
Police say Gray didn't think anyone was around when the gun fired but feared he may have been shot himself.
"After determining he wasn’t shot, Gray exited the restroom and started to leave the truck stop and then discovered the 10-year-old had been struck," a Decatur County Sheriff's spokesman said.
The 10-year-old was taken to Decatur County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.
The wounds were determined to be superficial and non-life threatening.
Gray has been charged with Criminal Recklessness as a Level 6 Felony.
