3-year-old killed in Jennings Co. crash

Two other kids, mom seriously hurt

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) -- A single-vehicle crash had a tragic result in Jennings County last night.

Police say a vehicle driven by Lisa Ely, of Seymour, left the road and struck and culvert and a tree on County Road 1000 West around 8:15 p.m. Saturday.

3-year-old Thomas Ely sustained fatal injuries from the crash, investigators confirmed.

Two other minors suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital before being transported to Riley Hospital for further treatment.

Lisa Ely was also transported to an Indianapolis-area hospital.

This investigation is ongoing and toxicology results are pending, Jennings County deputies added.

"The Jennings County Sheriff's Office would like to remind drivers and parent’s, of the importance of ensuring their children are properly restrained in the proper equipment for their age," the sheriff's office said.
