The 9-year-old finds unique way to help student-athletes
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- A 9-year-old boy has come up with an artistic way to help student-athletes in Decatur County.
Max Schory is a fourth grader at Batesville Intermediate School who creates art pieces for a good cause.
He auctions off the artwork with the proceeds going to the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County.
“I do the fundraisers because I've known people who've been to the hospital, I've been to the hospital, and I just want to help people,” Max said.
In his first year, Max’s fundraiser consisted of painted rocks that he sold to friends and family. The second year of the fundraiser was inspirational paintings. Max thought even bigger this year by including his classmates and auctioning their drawings on Facebook.
This year, the auction raised $500 for the ImpPact Testing program for concussions.
ImPact Testing is used by healthcare, educational, and sports organizations to help assess and manage concussions, by comparing baseline and post-injury results.
Schory's contribution is more than half of what is required to provide the $1,000 program in Decatur County.
“Max is an extraordinary young man,” said Mandy Lohrum, Director for the Foundation, “and the Foundation is so grateful for his support. Donors like Max are touching lives of individuals they may never meet, and that is the greatest gift.”
"His parents who are Liz Schory, and Travis and Melissa Schory, should be very proud of Max because he has truly done this all by himself," Lohrum added.
The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County provides financial support for the healthcare initiatives of Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
