Crash happened as police were pursuing suspect

(FRIENDSHIP, Ind.) -- A Cross Plains man is facing serious charges after an incident in Jefferson County on Friday.

Madison Police responded to a report of a shooting but was told the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.

Police identified 43-year-old Mark Swafford, of Cross Plains, as the suspect and there was a police pursuit Saturday night.

Around 12 a.m. Sunday, the pursuit ended with a crash near Friendship in Ripley County.

Firefighters say two people were in the vehicle, who both required medical treatment. Police added that Swafford's injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.
