Crash happened as police were pursuing suspect
(FRIENDSHIP, Ind.) -- A Cross Plains man is facing serious charges after an incident in Jefferson County on Friday.
Madison Police responded to a report of a shooting but was told the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.
Police identified 43-year-old Mark Swafford, of Cross Plains, as the suspect and there was a police pursuit Saturday night.
Around 12 a.m. Sunday, the pursuit ended with a crash near Friendship in Ripley County.
Firefighters say two people were in the vehicle, who both required medical treatment. Police added that Swafford's injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.
After receiving medical treatment, Swafford is expected to recover, police said.
Swafford has been charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery and Battery.
“We are pleased to have made an arrest in this case and are grateful for the assistance of our law enforcement partners,” said Madison Police Chief Shawn Scudder. “We want to reassure the public that we take all crimes seriously and will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”
