Aurora veteran, former council member passes away

Served nation and the community

(AURORA, Ind.) -- Aurora native John Borgman has passed away at the age of 91.


He joined the Army in 1955 and would serve the nation for 20 years. He was a Special Forces Green Beret and led the last battalion combat jump in Vietnam in 1968 with 500 men under his command.


After the military, he returned home and worked for First Financial Bank.


He was elected to Aurora City Council in 1994 and would serve for 28 years.


Borgman also served on many boards and commissions including the Board of Works, Utility Board, Planning Commission and Historic Preservation.


He is survived by his wife, Marianne, one daughter and three grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora on Monday.
