Back-to-back fire calls in Aurora show importance of mutual aid agreements

Two structure fire reports on Monday

(AURORA, Ind.) –  Collaboration among departments and mutual aid agreements are an important part of firefighting in our area.

That was seen on Monday night when Aurora Fire received two calls for structure fires within one hour.

The first occurred at a home on Hanover Avenue and agencies that responded included Aurora Fire, Aurora EMS, Hogan Volunteer Fire, Lawrenceburg Fire and Greendale Fire.

While firefighters were on the scene, another call came in for a report of a fire about seven minutes away.

Due to the ongoing situation on Hanover Avenue, fire departments that responded were Moores Hill, Lawrenceburg, Hogan Volunteer Fire, Dillsboro and Greendale.

Both fire reports were deemed minor with no injuries or damage. If either fire was serious, the existing collaboration between neighboring departments would have been crucial when every minute counts.

Dearborn County fire departments have agreements that at least three agencies respond to any report of a structure fire in the county.
