Barn destroyed by fire near Milan Tuesday

Five departments responded

(MILAN, Ind.) – A barn was destroyed by a fire in Milan on Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called around 7:40 p.m. to a property on County Road 200 South.

This wasn’t the first fire Milan firefighters responded to last night, as they were first dispatched to a dryer fire at the Milan laundromat, which they quickly put out.

Not long after, the department got called to a possible fire at a barn.

They arrived to discover the barn fully engulfed in flames.

The roof collapsed which hindered firefighters from some abilities to put the fire out.

Milan Fire called for mutual aid and Friendship, Versailles, Dillsboro and Delaware responded.

Assistant Chief Rod Johnson is also crediting local police and S&S Excavating for their assistance during the incident.

Firefighters were on scene until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

They have not determined a cause of the fire, but have confirmed nobody was hurt.

“Responding to fires like this is totally made by volunteers and one of the ways they fund themselves is through fundraisers like chicken dinners, which Milan Fire will have this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.," said Johnson.
