Batesville Christmas program in need of donations

Has taken place for more than 30 years

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The Christmas program known as Families Helping Families in Batesville will continue this holiday season.

The program helps provide Christmas gifts to families that meet certain financial criteria, such as being part of the free-or-reduced school lunch program at Batesville.

The purpose of the program is to ensure no child goes without Christmas presents on Christmas Day.

The organizers receive a wish list of what the kids want from Santa and there is a $60 spending limit for each child.

FHP provides gifts for infants to kids at the age of 18, and provides food gift cards to families.

Last year the program served 118 families by providing more than 700 gifts and more than $20,000.00 in gift cards.

Program organizer Jim Saner says they are not quite sure what to expect this year.

“With inflation so high, the number of families will be higher than last year. Our resources are always thin, and we need donations so we can meet the needs of our families,” Saner said.

They are hoping to receive financial contributions to be able to provide for every child in need.

If you would like to help or know more about the program, please contact Jim Saner at 812-525-1239 or Maureen Saner at 812-212-9797 or at jimsaner@etczone.com.  If you wish to donate, you can make your tax-deductible check out to:

“I just cannot stand the thought of a child going without a present or something to open at Christmas.  The program makes us feel good, and we know how appreciative the families are that receive the gifts” says Saner.

“I am constantly amazed at the requests we receive, such as very basic items like socks, underwear, pants and shirts to internet games, gift cards, board games, baby dolls and bikes.  The program is limited to $60.00 per child,” he added.
