Batesville teen breaks powerlifting world record Saturday

Was his first-ever powerlifting competition

(RICHMOND, Ind.) – A Batesville teen broke a world record during his very first powerlifting competition this weekend.

18-year–old Will Westerfeld recently graduated from Batesville High School. He's an avid lifter who is in the gym nearly 7 days a week.

He attended the International Powerlifting Association (IPA) Meet in Richmond, Indiana on Saturday, where he competed in Back Squatting, Bench Pressing and Deadlift.

During the deadlift, he broke the world record in the 181-pound class for 18 and 19 year olds by lifting a total of 585 pounds.

Altogether, Westerfeld lifted 1,330 pounds during the meet which now ranks him second in the world in his age group.

Westerfeld is a self-taught lifter, but credits Tim Paul for helping him prepare for his first ever meet.

The Batesville teen is now considering more powerlifting events and a possible entry into the Strongman competition.
