Murphy Wiffleball Classic was created in 2021
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The annual Murphy Wiffleball Classic will take place in Batesville on Saturday, September 14.
The tournament was created to support Andy Murphy, of Batesville, who battled ALS for a few years before passing away in 2023.
This weekend’s tournament will benefit another local person battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Tim Cook, of Brookville, was diagnosed with limb onset ALS in 2022.
Prior to the disease, Tim worked as a machinist at Anderson Manufacturing and spent his free time fishing, trap shooting, traveling and visiting nice restaurants with his wife.
“With the progression of his disease, he was forced to leave his job and was unable to continue the hobbies he has spent years enjoying. The loss of independence that so many people with ALS face is one of the hardest parts of coping with the illness for Tim,” organizers of the wiffleball tournament said.
All the proceeds from this weekend’s Murphy Wiffleball Classic will support Tim and his family.
“Despite the numerous hurdles that Tim and his wife face, like lack of reliable transportation and high burden of medical bills, he still fights everyday,” organizers added.
The wiffleball tournament will be held on Saturday at The Plex in Batesville.
