A one-day voting contest propelled Batesville to first place
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) -- Community members helped Batesville High School win a one-of-a-kind grant contest on Friday.
Batesville was a state finalist for a $500,000 grant from the Indiana Department Education and was one of only three schools eligible.
The school that garnered the most votes from their community Friday would win the contest.
Batesville won and school leaders thanked the community for their support.
"Thank you, Batesville! It was a late night, but we did it! Batesville won the $500,000 grant at the IDOE Educational Excellence Awards Gala. This award is a reflection of our staff, students, and our community," said the Batesville Community Education Foundation on Facebook.
The only other schools who eligible for the grant were the Linton-Stockton School Corporation and Purdue Polytechnic High School.
