The owner shares update
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The owner of Carriage On The Square is Greensburg is sharing an update for the first time since a scary incident earlier this week.
A car struck the outdoor patio area of the restaurant on Tuesday night. It resulted in 7 people being hurt, with two being air-cared to a Cincinnati hospital.
Police confirmed yesterday that the two who were flown, were alert on Wednesday.
The owner, Hans Van Louis, says his thoughts are with those who were injured that night.
He added that the the restaurant will have a benefit day for them in the future.
There is no timetable on when the restaurant will open, Van Louis added.
“We want to get things done right. I will not push the opening just to be open. Safety is my concern,” he said.
Van Louis is crediting the first responders and says Decatur County residents should be proud of the police, firefighters, EMT’s and dispatchers who serve the community.
“Lives could have been lost without them. With the chaos there was organization and immediate action for the rescue of the victims. We don’t have a safe community without these men and women that serve. What our first responders witness on a day to day basis has to wear a mental toll,” he said.
He also says there should be a conversation about the future of outdoor dining in the downtown district, to avoid this from happening again.
There has been a fundraiser launched for the victims by clicking here.
