Aurora branch donates to Exploring College and Careers program
(AURORA, Ind.) -- The Aurora branch of Civista Bank is helping South Dearborn Middle School students prepare for their future.
The middle school's Exploring College and Careers course gives eighth graders the opportunity to go on field trips to various job sectors that interest them.
So far this year, students have visited architecture firms, medical facilities, crime laboratories, information technology companies and more.
Instructor Carrie McCune recently reached out to Civista Bank about a possible donation to offset the cost of the field trips.
"Ms. McCune did not request a specific donation amount. But when I learned that over 50 percent of the students at SDMS qualify for free or reduced lunches, and state funding is very limited, I knew Civista needed to try to help our community," said Civista Bank branch manager Jordan Rollins said.
After meeting with McCune, Rollins requested funding approval from the bank's regional donation committee in the amount of $1,000.
Rollins delivered the $1,000 check on Thursday which will cover the majority of the field trip expenses for the program.
"Being a South Dearborn graduate, I am so grateful my employment with Civista allows me to help give back to my community,” Rollins added.
