Connersville Police assist with international internet luring crime arrest

Updated: 17 hours ago

Investigation began in July

(CONNERSVILLE, Ind.) – Connersville authorities were part of an investigation that led to the arrest of a man in Toronto.

26-year-old Christian Jackson, of Toronto, is facing numerous charges of allegedly luring a child under 16 years of age.

The investigation began in July when a Fayette County resident said they were the victim of sextortion, which is a crime that has been on the rise nationally.

“The victim reported that images as well as videos had been extorted by a subject claiming to be a 17-year-old male from Canada. The material was obtained by various methods which manipulated the victim into providing images and videos against their will,” Connersville Police said.

Investigators say the victim was manipulated to share the materials against their will. The victim later learned that the images had been leaked onto social media.

Connersville Police were able to determine that the suspect was in Canada. The local investigators began working with the Department of Homeland Security to extract data from the digital evidence.

That information was provided to the Toronto Police Child Exploitation Unit. Toronto authorities were able to located and arrest Jackson on a myriad of charges.

It remains an active investigation as Toronto authorities continue to look into the matter.

Connersville investigators worked as affiliate members of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

ICAC investigators have seen a 400 percent spike in tips about these types of crimes since 2019.
