Couple recognized for volunteerism in Decatur County

Merrill and Linda receive the well-deserved award

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Merrill and Linda Smith are being recognized for going above and beyond in Decatur County. 


The husband and wife received the Stephen Decatur Award at the annual Decatur County Community Foundation annual meeting. 


The award recognizes those show a commitment to volunteerism in the community.


Merrill founded Farmers Feeding the Flock in 2018 which has received statewide attention. 


He's a longtime member of the Greensburg Kiwanis and Greensburg Optimist Club.


Merrill has given time to those with special needs while also serving as a volunteer FFA livestock coach, Sunday School teacher, parade organizer and the list goes on. 


Linda is the STEM Curriculum director for North Decatur Schools and we first met her during the annual Camp Invention in 2022. Watch that video here. 


She also co-organized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to speak directly with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station.


She also serves as Decatur County Community Schools teachers’ union President. 


Linda is also the deaconess at the First Christian Church. She’s spent 10 years volunteering for People Assisting Animals in Need, fostering over 1,000 dogs in Decatur County
