DCMH Athlete of the Week: Collin Messer

Leading his North Decatur Dirt Road Basketball team

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A North Decatur sixth grader has earned this week’s DMCH Athlete of the Week!

Collin Messer plays in the Dirt Road Basketball league and is finding tons of success on the court.

Last Sunday, he had two big performances to help his team notch back-to-back victories.

Messer had at least 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Chargers blew out Hauser.

He also put up similar numbers to lead his team to victory over South Decatur as well.

What makes Collin standout is the work he is putting in outside of the games.

“He wakes up with a basketball in his hand and is focused and determined to be the best player he can be,” said his dad, Nicholas. “He’s not into video games or anything like that, he loves to play basketball and they have to kick him out of the gym sometimes!”

Last week, during the bitter cold temperatures, Collin was in the backyard shooting basketball at 6:30 in the morning!

Messer is one of several talented sixth graders on the team which is having plenty of success this season.

Coaches say the team is all about heart, hustle and love for the game.

“They just love to play together, they are great competitors and push each other to become better,” Nicholas Messer said.

The Chargers will be back in action in the Dirt Road League when they host Hauser and Milan this Sunday.

Here's some highlights from last weekend:
