DCMH has successful Pink Out campaign

Helps provide mammogram services to those in need

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County (Hospital Foundation) proudly announces the successful completion of this year’s Pink Ribbon Fund fundraising activities, which raised over $34,000 in support of Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) providing essential mammogram services for those in need.

This year, DCMH and the Hospital Foundation partnered with several local organizations to powerfully show support for breast cancer awareness. DCMH partnered with the Greensburg Fire Department and other local businesses to wrap a Fire Truck in an all-over pink design. The Hospital Foundation sold screen-printed PINK OUT shirts with proceeds donated to the Pink Ribbon Fund. Additionally, the Hospital Foundation partnered with local schools and their sports teams to host 12 “PINK OUT Games” where students and attendees were encouraged to wear pink gear and contribute to the fund.

Lastly, the Hospital Foundation partnered with local restaurants, including El Chile Poblano, Greensburg Dairy Queen, Greensburg Pizza King, The tAAp, Tree City Brew, and Westport Dairy Queen to coordinate six dine-in nights where patrons were encouraged to wear pink, and a portion of sales was donated to the Pink Ribbon Fund. As an additional way to show support surrounding breast cancer awareness and the Pink Ribbon Fund, the community was also invited to join in a countywide “PINK OUT Day”, dressing in pink and sharing photos online with #dcmhpinkout to raise awareness.

Prioritizing breast cancer awareness and mammogram screenings can help find and prevent breast cancer. Early detection significantly improves survival rates and treatment options.

Jessica Hunter, the Lead Mammography Technologist at DCMH said, “Regular mammograms are the only proven screening tool that can significantly lower the risk of death from breast cancer.” Hunter’s statement reflects the message from the DCMH team and community -- empower individuals by providing them with resources needed for proactive health decisions which ultimately saves lives.

Every year from September through October the Hospital Foundation promotes breast cancer awareness and raises funds for the Pink Ribbon Fund by hosting ‘Tee Off ‘Fore’ Ta-Tas’ and the PINK OUT shirt sales and events. These initiatives are fundamental in helping individuals in the community access their annual mammograms. While donations are welcomed year-round, the Hospital Foundation is especially grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown during these two months.

“We sincerely thank our Pink Ribbon Fund supporters—your generosity ensures women in our community have access to essential mammograms, making a powerful impact in the fight against breast cancer,” said Hospital Foundation Director, Mandy Lohrum.

Since 2014, over 400 mammograms and 250 procedures have been completed through the Pink Ribbon Fund with 247 patients receiving support. For more information or to contribute to the Pink Ribbon Fund, please contact the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County at 812-663-1220 or foundation@dcmh.net.
