Dearborn Co. inmate graduates earns high school diploma Thursday

David has a big dream of owning his own barbershop"

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – An Aurora man is the first Dearborn County male inmate to earn a high school diploma while in jail.

David Roberson graduated from the program on Thursday. This initiative was started earlier this year and the first female inmate graduated in August.

The program is made possible by River Valley Resources in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and they help those who are incarcerated complete their High School Equivalency Test.

One of his instructors, Kati Elliott, says she is excited to see what the future holds for Roberson.

David has a big dream of owning his own barbershop and helping anyone who sits in his chair feel confident when they leave. He scored college-ready on his test, and he was incredibly engaged in the adult education program,” Elliott told The 812.

Roberson was joined during the graduation by Elliott, IRACS Peer Counselor Kindra Turner and Jail Commander Jon Winkler.
