Decatur County police plan increased patrols during Thanksgiving

Effort to curb drunk driving, seat belt use

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Law enforcement agencies in Decatur County will increase patrols during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, St. Paul Police and New Point Police will be focusing on impaired driving, aggressive driving, and proper use of seat belts.

“During the campaign, officers will work overtime conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols designed to discourage impaired driving and promote seat belt use,” the sheriff's department said.

Data shows that impaired driving has been associated with Thanksgiving Eve, which is a typically a night out on the town for many young adults.

Drivers are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they encounter an impaired or unsafe driver on the road.
