Driver charged in deadly Decatur County crash

Crash occurred in mid-August and claimed life of woman

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- The suspected driver of fatal crash in Decatur County last month was arrested on Friday.

32-year-old Bearette Nicyle Messina, of Bartholomew County, has been charged with one felony count of causing death while operating a vehicle with a specified amount of alcohol.

The crash occurred near 10268 W. County Road 100 S. on August 16.

A passenger in the vehicle, Danielle Mills, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Messina was flown to an Indianapolis hospital due to the severe extent of his injuries after the crash.

At the time of the accident, police suspected excessive speed as a contributing cause of the crash.
