Eight local runners advance to State Finals

(SOUTHEAST INDIANA) -- Several local cross country teams and individual runners were in action this weekend for a chance to go to the state finals. Here's who advanced on Saturday:


East Central

The Trojans will be well-represented at state with three runners advancing at the Shelbyville Regional Saturday.


Bradyn Hatton is heading to state after he broke a school record that had stood for 41 years. He ran the regional 5K in 15:12 which tops the record held by Rich Henderson since 1982. Henderson was at the competition and met with Bradyn after the historic run.

On the girl's side, the Trojans are sending two runners to the state finals. Callie Bentley and Jena Weiler both qualified individually. The girl's team just missed the cut to qualify for the state

Greensburg

The Pirates will be represented at the State Finals as they're sending two runners!


Senior TJ Gorman finished in the top 15 at the Evansville regional to advance on Saturday. He ran the 5K in 16 minutes and 2 seconds.


Alaina is just a freshman but qualified for the State Finals as well. The 812 spoke with her and her teammate following their accomplishments:


"During sectionals I wanted to get in the top 20 and didn't By not getting that it helped me push through today, I am just really proud of myself," Bedel said.


TJ Gorman says this is an accomplishment he didn't expect when he started running a few years ago.


"To be honest, it is really cool. When I started running as a freshman or sophomore I never expected to take it this serious, it has became my life," Gorman said.

Milan

Standout runner Benjamin Riehle advanced at the Shelbyville regional on Saturday. He finished in the top 15 individually to qualify for state.

The Indians qualified as a team for Regionals and finished 11th overall. To advance to state, the team has to finish in the top 5.


Batesville

The Bulldogs are sending two girl's runners to the State Finals! Kaylynn Bedel and Lexiyne Harris both qualified for state individually Saturday. Bedel is a junior and Harris is a sophomore.

Other Schools

Several other local runners competed at the Regional level Saturday. Oldenburg, South Dearborn and Switzerland County had impressive seasons. They did not have any runners who qualified state.


State will be held at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute on Saturday, October 28.
