Community members, representatives from company spoke
(VEVAY, Ind.) – It was a fiery meeting regarding the proposed chicken farm in Moorefield on Wednesday night.
About 100 community members attended the Switzerland County Zoning Appeals Board meeting at the TEC Building.
The community is concerned after an 80-acre plot was purchased by Vital Farms, a billion dollar company from Texas.
Vital Farms says they plan to have approximately 20,000 chickens on the farm and at least one employee at multiple times.
Community members are concerned not only about an odor, but also potential threats to health and environment.
Nearby property owners, county residents and representatives from Vital Farms spoke at the public meeting.
There was no decision made on Wednesday night. Another community meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on January 22 at the TEC Building.
