Taff Furniture was founded 89 years ago

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Greensburg native Kyle Moeller was a full-time business student at IUPUC and needed to make more money so he applied for a job.

He became a delivery driver at Taff Furniture and recalls how it was a perfect fit.

“Taff Furniture worked with me on my classes and if we had a slow day here, I could work on homework or I could do homework in the truck,” he said.

It was during the days of being a delivery driver that he first had the thought of potentially owning Taff Furniture one day.

“It was always in the back of my mind and I love the business and just wanted to make it happen at some point,” he recalls.

It was something the longtime owners, Joe Taff, Don Blankman and Bruce Talbott may have been considering as well.

The 2013 Greensburg High School graduate would eventually earn his Bachelor’s in business management and supply chain management.

He married his wife, Taylor, and entered the workforce holding a few different careers.

It all came full circle when he was given the opportunity to return back to Taff Furniture, this time as the owner.

Taff Furniture is located at 115 W. Main Street in Greensburg

It became official earlier this week and Moeller has been shocked by the community support.

“The amount of support I saw from people I didn't know and everyone throughout the community almost brought a tear to my eye,” Moeller said.

The young couple is now taking over a business that has been in existence since 1935.

Jay Taff first opened the furniture store in Rushville and it eventually expanded to Greensburg in 1967, where it is headquartered today.

Taff Furniture also had a location in Batesville from 1985 to 2010 where Amack’s Well is currently located. Back then, the owners decided to close that store in an effort to centralize operations.

Moeller inherits a business that will soon celebrate their 90th anniversary.

He calls it a dream come true to become the owner of a historic business in his hometown.

“I just want to make Greensburg proud and to continue to have a store that makes Greensburg proud,” he said.

The company is now a La-Z-Boy Comfort Studio which means there is a large selection to order from which goes beyond what is available in-store.

“Every house has different features and paint and we want to make sure someone gets something that perfectly matches their home, that you’ll be happy with and is really durable,” Moeller said.

Taff also offers restonic mattresses, bedrooms. Dining room sets, lift chairs, end tables and more.

They also repair furniture and pride themselves on being able to service what they sell.

Taff Furniture also provides free delivery services to the Greensburg, Batesville and Rushville areas.
