(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – More Franklin County deputies are equipped with a life-saving device in their patrol vehicles.
Several new AED’s were distributed to deputies to ensure that there is one available during every shift.
It was made possible through the Franklin County Health Department as a result of a grant.
Sheriff Pete Cates says he was approached by Dr. David Welsh earlier this year who asked how the health department could help the sheriff’s office.
This donation adds to some existing AED’s the department already had.
Sheriff Cates says the goal isn’t complete yet. He plans to have an AED in every patrol car in Franklin County in the future.
In addition to Dr. Welsh, the sheriff also thanked Franklin County Health Department Nurse Brittany Luers for helping to obtain the devices.
AEDs portable devices that check the heart's rhythm and send a shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm. They are used to help people having sudden cardiac arrest.
