Franklin Co. DNR officer recognized for work

Wooley has been a DNR officer for 20 years

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – The Indiana DNR has named Travis Wooley as their District 9 Officer of the Year.

This award is given to only one officer in District 9 which includes 11 counties in Southeast Indiana.

Wooley has served in Franklin County since 2012. Previously, he worked in Fayette and Warren counties.

In addition to his normal duties as a field officer, Wooley serves as a field training officer, boat accident investigator, and background investigator,” DNR officials said.

The district award puts Wooley in the running for the Pitzer Award, which is presented to the top overall conservation officer in the state and is selected from the 10 district winners.

The Pitzer Award is named after Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who was fatally shot while investigating illegal hunting activity on Jan. 2, 1961, in Jay County.

The 812 has gotten to know Wooley for his work during his free time. He is a member of Whitetails Unlimited and helped a young man, who is wheelchair-bound, by purchasing a trailer so he can hunt with his father.
