Only 25 cases reported worldwide
(CINCINNATI) – A 2003 graduate of South Dearborn is the mother of an 8-month-old who has been diagnosed with an extremely rare condition.
Elizabeth Dozier Coombs, and her husband, Keith, have a child battling Weiss-Krusszka Syndrome, a condition with only 25 reported cases worldwide.
The rare genetic disorder causes a variety of developmental and craniofacial abnormalities:
The baby’s name is Hudson and he has underwent heart surgery and is currently fighting to recover from the procedure.
They are currently discussion a ventricular assist device to offload the stress on his heart.
“If his heart doesn't recover the way it needs the rest of his body will be supported and healthy which will allow him to be a candidate for transplant,” the family said.
A Go Fund Me account has been established to support Hudson and his family during the medical journey.
“Your donations will directly contribute to Hudson's medical expenses, ongoing care, and support for his family. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in Hudson's journey towards healing and recovery,” the fundraiser stated.
