Funeral held for longtime Napoleon firefighter Wednesday

Meyer served on the department for 58 years

(NAPOLEON, Ind.) – Fire departments from across Southeast Indiana paid their respects to a fallen firefighter on Wednesday.

72-year-old Ralph Meyer join the Napoleon Fire Department in 1966 when he was just 14-years-old.

He would serve on the department for 58 years and achieved the rank of Fire Chief.

Meyer passed away from a medical emergency last week, hours after responding to a house fire between Napoleon and New Point. His passing was ruled as a line-of-duty death, due to the medical emergency happening not long after the fire.

Wednesday's service included a procession, ringing of the bell, and the final call for duty.
