Greensburg native killed in suspected domestic violence incident in South Carolina

His family is hoping others heed their warning

(RIDGEWAY, SC)  – The family of a Greensburg native is speaking out after he lost his life in a suspected domestic violence incident last week.

44-year-old George Thomas Yorn lived in Greensburg for the majority of his life, but had moved to Fairfield County, South Carolina in the past year.

Yorn was stabbed to death last Wednesday and his wife has been charged with murder.

His family is hoping his tragic death is a lesson for others, that domestic violence can also be perpetrated by women.

“My brother spoke openly about the abuse he was enduring—the violent fights, the physical harm inflicted by his spouse. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the depth of it,” said his sister, Victoria Banks.

“He downplayed it, often masking the pain with his infectious laugh that made all of us laugh too. I brushed it off, never pressing for more details, never truly grasping the danger he was in,” she added.

George was the father of four sons and had 5 siblings. He recently found a passion for carpentry.

ONE WAY YOU CAN HELP: The family is now in need of donations. They want to bring Yorn home for the funeral and to be buried in Greensburg. The family needs some financial assistance to bring him home and you can help by clicking here.

His sister, Victoria, is sharing this message to other families:
