Greensburg Police arrest suspect, with help from firefighters

Police responded to a burglary in progress Wednesday

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Greensburg police arrested a man who was allegedly burglarizing a home Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the burglary report in the 300 block of Washington Street.

When they arrived, the homeowner told police the suspect was still inside the home.

"Officers began clearing the residence when they noticed the suspect had gained access into the attic," Police Chief Mike McNealy said.

The man prevented officers from accessing the attic, police said.

Officers called the Greensburg Fire Department to bring their ladder truck as well as the Greensburg Police Department Tactical Response Team.

Police used the ladder truck to access the attic and eventually take the suspect into custody.

41-year-old Matthew Beagle, of Shelbyville, was arrested and charged with burglary, intimidation and resisting law enforcement.

"The Greensburg Police Department would like to thank the following agencies who

assisted. Decatur County Communications, Greensburg Fire Department, and the

Decatur County Sheriff’s Department," McNealy said,
