Copple recognized for contributions to school
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Greensburg's recently-retired school resource officer is getting recognition for his service to the school and community.
Bruce Copple was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National School Safety Conference on Friday.
Copple has served with the Greensburg Police Department for the past 25 years and has been an integral part of Greensburg Schools since 1999.
Among his many contributions, he created a public safety course for high school students interested in police and firefighter careers.
He also created a safety class at the elementary school where fourth and fifth graders received CPR training, Stop The Bleed training and other life-saving skills.
Copple announced his retirement earlier this year.
"Thank you Bruce for your service to all ages and communities for the last forty plus years. What a great legacy you have left," Greensburg Schools said on Twitter.
The National School Safety Conference is taking place this weekend in Indianapolis.
