Here’s how many crashes happened Friday night

Franklin, Decatur counties had the most accidents

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The snow and slick roads led to numerous crashes in Southeast Indiana on Friday night. 


There were at least 80 accidents within Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Ripley, Ohio and Switzerland counties after 4 p.m. Friday. 


First responders in Decatur and Franklin experienced the largest number of weather-related accidents with 27 each. 


Decatur County deputies responded to 12 property damage crashes, 13 slide-offs and 2 crashes with injuries, one of which was a semi tractor trailer on its side.


Sheriff Bill Meyerrose added that there have been a few more crashes Saturday morning.


Meyerrose is also taking time to commend all of the first responders, including volunteer firefighters, EMT’s, the highway department, and towing companies for their quick responses to the crashes. 

Semi crash in Decatur County

In Franklin County, there were also 27 crashes that occurred throughout the evening. Several accidents took place on state roads and county roads. 


In Dearborn County, there were a total of 14 crashes with numerous slide-offs. It all started when there were three crashes reported between 5:48 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday. 


Ripley County first responders also had their fair share of accidents with 10 reported across the county. 


Switzerland and Ohio counties escaped the brunt of weather-related collisions. Switzerland County dispatchers report two accidents while Ohio County did not have any.
