Locals hope it remains a drive-in theater
(VERSAILLES, Ind.) -- The first movie shown at the Bel Air Drive-In was "Giant" which featured James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor on June 14, 1957.
For the next six decades, the theater located between Osgood and Versailles, has welcomed teens and moviegoers every Friday and Saturday during the summer.
The last movie that played there was "Taylor Swift: The Era's Tour" on November 5.
The Bel-Air has stood the test of time and is now a symbol of American nostalgia right here in Ripley County.
It's been family-owned and operated the entire time but that will soon change.
The current owner is retiring after several years of operating the theater.
The Bel-Air is on the market and locals are hoping the next owner keeps the drive-in open.
"The Bel-Air Drive-In is a true testament to the magic of cinema and the enduring charm of the drive-in theater experience," one movie website said.
More than 23 acres are for sale and the property features several large ponds, two pole barn garages, concessions, a projector room and more.
The property is being listed by Meisberger Real Estate and you can view it here.
