I saw the floating lights in Batesville

Passed by on Sunday night

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – This is The 812’s Steven Harmeyer and I would have never guessed that ‘floating lights’ would be a topic of discussion this weekend.

I’ve heard a little bit about the drone stuff in New Jersey but haven’t followed it closely, and haven’t really cared that much, like I usually don't when it comes to national news.

I just like covering positive Southeast Indiana stories which is why I created The 812.

On Sunday night, I was writing a news story (this one to be specific) when I saw a post on a local weather page about “possible floating lights in Southeast Indiana.”

Figured I could use a break from writing and walk outside to look up and see if anything was there.

Important Note: I do not do clickbait articles. I am not drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs. Also, not here to fearmonger and the following is what I honestly saw.

What Did I See:

I am not kidding, there were floating lights (or drones) all over the night sky moving in the same southwest direction over my home in Ripley County. There were maybe 50-100, I don't know.

Some were brighter than others, while some moved in a formation of three-at-a-time, from what I saw.

There were tons of them, more than my video camera or iPhone could capture.

Another Important Note: I’m well aware of what StarLink is and have received several videos and photos over the past year where it was me who informed the sender that Starlink is what they were seeing, opposed to their original thought that they were sending UFO footage to The 812.

Side note, you guys do realize that I vet every single story before it goes on The 812 right?

After working in local and regional news for as long as I have, would I blindly post a video or story without confirming it,  the answer is no. I've been trained to be skeptical.

After seeing the floating lights, I called a local police dispatch to say if they get calls about it, those people are not hallucinating.

Also, spoke with a relative in Decatur County as well as a friend of mine long before posting it on The 812 to see if they saw anything.

Went back outside while I was uploading the video and the floating lights weren't as prevalent as it had been 10 minutes earlier. Not sure what that was all about but it was gone.

I know there were also people in Brookville, Batesville and Versailles that saw that mysterious display as well.

The shame of this all is, you have to see it yourself.  Taking video at night, with the technology you and I currently have, will never do it justice.

It wasn’t a constellation or Starlink for sure.

Maybe some weird astrology thing? Possibly, but kind of odd that it isn’t being reported by the traditional news in a year where we’ve experienced a rare occurrences like a solar eclipse or Northern Lights, that they reported on.

Not here to fearmonger anybody and won't be turning The 812 into an astrology page, but it was extremely odd and a sight to behold. I am confident in what I saw and confident that it has to be seen with the naked eye. Nighttime video will never do it justice.

What was it? I have no idea but floating lights is best way to describe it. Hopefully, it just a rare occurrence that means no harm to us.
