After public opposition
(INDIANAPOLIS) – The proposed Link 101 project is no longer moving forward.
INDOT officials say higher than anticipated construction costs, low projected travel benefits, and public feedback led to the cancellation.
However, opponents fear the project would destroy farms, communities, and the small-town culture of our area.
“Instead, INDOT will prioritize preservation of local corridor assets, in line with public feedback,” officials said.
Link 101 was a project to evaluate alternatives for a State Road 101 connection between the Markland Dam and U.S. 50.Project officials say it would help with connectivity, travel, and freight movement in Southeast Indiana. However, opponents fear the project would destroy farms, communities, and the small-town culture of our area.
Officials say costs have soared to upwards of $350M compared to the original estimates of $200M.
“There has also been widespread opposition voiced to the project, both in public meetings and through project communication channels,” officials said.
The funds allocated to Link 101 will be reprioritized statewide, including in southeastern Indiana.
