Jacob Scare Haunted Woods starts Oct. 5

Takes place every Saturday in October

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – It’s hard to believe but it is almost the time of year for haunted houses and mazes.

One haunted woods experience honors a South Ripley student while giving back to first responders.

Jacob Vogel was one of three students killed in a horrific crash in March of 2013.

He was an FFA member and also a cadet firefighter with Friendship.

The Jacob Scare takes place at 3530 E. Olean Road in Versailles. It starts on October 5 and occurs from 8-11 p.m. every Saturday night in October.

It raises money for the Jacob Vogel Memorial Fund, which helps send students to emergency services courses at the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles.

The haunted experience also raises funds for the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department.

His family recalls how the community rallied around them in the days and weeks that followed the crash.

“Everyone will need a firefighter/first responder at some point in their life. The local volunteer fire departments are struggling to find enough volunteers, so we use the scare to raise awareness of that and to donate money to our local fire department,” his family said.
