Collecting tabs for school competition
(LAFAYETTE, Ind.) -- A Jac-Cen-Del first grader got a surprise donation while in northern Indiana on Saturday.
Ryker Sanders and his family are at Prophetstown State Park in Lafayette this weekend.
He's been collecting pop tabs this summer for a competition at Jac-Cen-Del Elementary. The school encourages students to collect the tabs for The Ronald McDonald House.
The class who donates the most tabs will receive a McDonald's lunch this fall.
Ryler takes the competition seriously and his mom posted about the collection request on Facebook.
Indiana State Police employee Michele Rader saw the Facebook post and decided to relay the message.
ISP Trooper Alaina Thomen, of the Lafayette Post, stopped by the state park on Saturday with a generous amount of pop tabs for Sanders.
"Ryker will be at Prophetstown State Park through Sunday morning, so if you're in the area, consider stopping by and contributing to his collection. Every tab helps," the ISP Post spokesman said.
