Local farmers eligible for discount cover crop program

Available to each county in Southeast Indiana

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Southeast Indiana farmers are eligible for a discount of cover crop premium.

The discount program was designed to promote planting additional acres of cover crops that are not covered by other state or federal incentives.

Farmers who plant cover crops on owned or rented acres will receive a $5 per acre crop insurance premium discount. Farmers who planted cover crops in the fall of 2024 are eligible to apply.

Its a program through the Indiana Department Agriculture and organizers say the benefits of cover crops include increased organic matter, improved soil biology as well as better water infiltration and water-holding capacity.

The discount program is available to each county in Southeast Indiana.

Applications are due March 15. Click here to learn more information.
