Local girls learn about male-dominated careers

Southeastern Career Center hosts unique program

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – The Southeastern Career Center hosted its annual Fearless Female event on Friday.

The program is for girls who are in eighth grade through their sophomore year at schools from across Southeast Indiana.

It’s an opportunity to give the students hands-on experience in careers that are traditionally dominated by males.

155 girls registered for the program and they visited the auto, diesel, precision machine, heavy equipment, construction trades, electrical, and welding sections of the career center.

“The students walk away with goodies, free t-shirts, and lunch thanks to our generous donations,” said Southeastern Career Center Student Services Coordinator Amy Solly.

The Fearless Female program has been recognized at the state level for its success.
