Governor announced the order on Friday
(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has announced the deployment of 50 National Guard soldiers to the U.S. and Mexico border in Texas.
The soldiers will arrive in Texas in mid-March and will serve there for ten months.
The order comes after Gov. Holcomb traveled to the southern border and received a detailed briefing from the front lines.
State Rep. Alex Zimmerman of North Vernon applauded the decision and said he is encouraged to see Indiana take a stand.
“Every state should be concerned over the massive influx of illegal immigrants crossing the border reaching an all-time high. We need to know who and what is coming into our country, and that's simply not happening due to failed policy and leadership in Washington, D.C.,” Zimmerman said.
Meanwhile, State Rep. Lindsay Patterson of Brookville also backed the move.
“I'm in full support of Governor Holcomb calling on Indiana National Guard members to join Texas and other states to help lead where the federal government has failed," said Patterson.
