Local shooters win American Legion championship

Versailles club earns sixth straight tournament win

(GREENFIELD, Ind.) – The Versailles American Legion Junior Shooting Club are state champions once again. 

The club won the American Legion State Championship in Greenfield this weekend. It was their sixth consecutive tournament win.

Versailles had the best score which was 992-18 on Saturday. They defeated teams from Indianapolis and Jasper. 

Eight shooters are on this year’s team and are from Batesville, Jac-Cen-Del, South Ripley and Southwestern. 

The students are Katie Miller, Maria Vittoria Belisardi, Chloe Grable, Lilly Guerra, Anna Block, Phillip Buamgartner, and Quinn Faust. 

Belisardi is an exchange student from Italy who had never picked up a rifle before entering the program.

The team is coached by Jerry Hewitt and Steve Scoggins.
