Don't spend the night at "Gray Bar Hotel"
(VEVAY, Ind.) -- Area law enforcement agencies are stepping up patrols to curb drunk driving on New Year's Eve.
One local police agency is getting creative on their warning to impaired drivers.
Switzerland County Sheriff Brian Morton says his jail could also be considered a hotel for law breakers.
He calls it the "Gray Bar Hotel."
"We offer free transportation and will assist you with check-in. However check out times may vary based on when your initial hearing is and the outcome of the hearing," Morton said.
The sheriff added that they have a great staff working tonight including jailers who will "greet you with a smile."
"As accommodating as our office is its still our hope that everyone makes smart choices, has a great new year and we hope not to see you at check in," the Sheriff added.
According to national data, the New Year’s holiday last year saw a spike in drunk-driving-related deaths by 117%.
