Huffman was among original founders of the department in 1948
(BRIGHT, Ind.) -- The Bright Fire Department is honoring one of their original founders and longest serving members.
Julius Huffman has passed away at the age of 93.
He served as a volunteer firefighter on the department for nearly 65 years.
"Everyone in Bright has seen him on our scenes or just out in public or cutting grass. Julius was one of the oldest active members in the State of Indiana," the Bright Fire Department said on Facebook Tuesday night.
Huffman was still assisting on fire departments calls just last year.
Family, friends and community members will miss his personality along with his catch phrase, "Okay, Babe," the fire department added.
Julius was among the original founders of the Bright Fire Department in 1948 and remained active his entire life.
He was awarded with Indiana's Golden Hoosier Award in 2021.
"We proudly salute him for unwavering years of service. Julius you can rest easy, as we will carry on from here," Bright Fire officials said.
