Longtime Franklin Co. deputy passes away

Was announced by department Sunday

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- A longtime deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department has passed away.


Deputy John Roberts retired in February after serving on the department since 2003.


"Deputy Roberts was the true definition of a public servant and devoted his life to his community and family," the department said.


"Deputy Roberts will be missed greatly, and we wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family," the agency added.


Roberts also served as assistant chief of the Metamora Fire Department for several years. He was also a member of Franklin County EMS for many years as well.


Services have not been announced as of Sunday afternoon.
