Suspect arrested after police stand-off

(LAUREL, Ind.) –  A man is behind bars after a suspected drive-by shooting occurred in Laurel.

Franklin County deputies say several shots were fired at a truck that was parked on Pearl Street, which is near the Long Branch Tavern and Laurel Town Hall, around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators say witness statements and video evidence led to them identifying 49-year-old Jeremy Douglas Wilson, of Laurel, as a suspect.

Police say Wilson was located at his home in the 12000 block of Elm Tree Road this morning.

“As deputies converged on Wilson’s home, he exited the home with an AR-15 style rifle.  Wilson refused to comply with the Sheriff’s Deputies, which prompted a short stand-off,” Franklin County Chief Deputy Greg Mehlbauer said.

Wilson was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Franklin County Jail.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Brookville Police Department, Rush County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police.
