(MILAN, Ind.) -- The Milan High School class of 1977 held a class reunion last month with a twist.
The class decided to turn it into a fundraiser to raise money for much-needed uniform hats for the Milan High School Band.
The goal was to raise $5,479 on October 14. Unfortunately, the class was unable to raise the necessary funds during the reunion.
Organizer Mike Schmidt got a surprise when an anonymous Milan graduate decided to chip in with a massive amount.
"They wanted to attend the reunion but were unable to attend; however, they loved the pictures that were posted online, especially our basket display and our sponsor's list, which amplified the amount of hard work leading up to the event," Schmidt said.
"They were nothing but impressed and knew then they wanted to contribute in a very generous and heartfelt way," he added
The contribution has now helped the fundraiser secure $4,700 toward the purchase of the band hats.
Schmidt says the class will raise the remaining $778 by holding buckets at the intersection of State Road 350 and 101.
"From what I understand, we need approval from the Milan Town Board first, and I plan to attend a town hall meeting soon," he said.
Schmidt also wanted to apologize for the delayed announcement of the funds, as they were unable to make it public until all donations were received.
