Reunion was organized in 2 weeks after classmate diagnosed
(MILAN, Ind.) -- The class of 1970 graduated from Milan High School when the cost of gas was 36 cents a gallon.
Gasoline rose to $1.20 a gallon in 1985 and that would be the last time they held a class reunion for decades.
A few weeks ago, one of the graduates found out that a classmate was recently diagnosed with onset dementia.
"His wife contacted me and said he would really like to see some of his classmates," Lennie Lynd said.
Lynd contacted some other graduate to see if a class reunion could be organized.
That's when they also found out that classmate, Leslie Walker, who now lives in Australia, was in town but was scheduled to leave this past Sunday.
Within two weeks, the alums organized their first class reunion in more than thirty years.
Nearly every living member of the Milan 1970 class met at the Reservation restaurant on Friday.
It was an opportunity to share memories and stories while looking through old yearbooks and photos.
"This has been really good, we are all getting older and its one of those things that you have to make time to get together," Lynd said.
Lynd added that the class was appreciative of the Reservation for facilitating the large gathering on short notice.
"It was great of them, you know, they're always open to the community and letting us come in like this and have this time together," Lennie said.
The Milan graduates have already discussed their next class reunion, to celebrate 55 years in 2025.
