Scored goal on Sunday
(LEBANON, Ind.) – A Milan senior didn’t let an injury end her soccer career early, and it paid off today.
Earlier this fall, Emma Rohrig was invited to participate in this weekend’s Indiana North vs. South women’s soccer match.
A few days later, she suffered a complete tear of her ACL during a home game on August 21.
“Her surgeon suggested immediate surgery but gave her the option to do physical therapy and possibly gain enough strength to get on the field and finish her senior season with her team,” said her mother, Mandy.
Emma was determined to not let that injury be the end of her soccer career.
She battled through intense therapy before being cleared to play while wearing a protective brace to prevent further injury.
“The doctor told me that I wouldn’t be able to pivot like I used to, or be the player I was before, but I was glad to get back out there with my teammates,” Emma told The 812.
The Indiana Elite North vs. South Division 1 women’s soccer game took place at Lebanon High School on Sunday. Emma was able to participate for the fourth consecutive year.
But first, she and her mom attended Mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman this morning before making the trip.
Emma not only got on the field, but scored a goal for the South team in her final high school match!
“I’ve played soccer since I was little, and when I scored today, I felt this was the answer to my prayers, that God has a purpose for me and everything will fall into place,” Emma said.
The Milan senior is unsure of what the future holds, but is considering playing soccer in college.
