Milan volleyball honors local mom battling cancer Thursday

Took place during "Dig Pink" game

(MILAN, Ind.) – The Milan Volleyball team took time to honor a local wife and mother during their ‘Dig Pink’ night on Thursday. 


The team recognized and raise funds for Katie Poole, who is battling breast cancer. 


“Katie, you are a fighter. You are strong and you more than loved. Milan volleyball is honored to walk alongside you,” the PA announcer said during the game against Jac-Cen-Del.


Some players handed flowers and gifts to Poole during the ceremony. 


“Knowing the support we have is what has really gotten me through this so far,” Poole told The 812. “I want to thank the community for helping my family and I for getting through this difficult time and we are very thankful.”


Poole has been heavily-involved in Milan youth sports for several years. She and her husband, Nick, who attend Milan Schools.
