Mt. Carmel 2nd graders receive cards from around the world

Have received hundreds of letters

(CEDAR GROVE, Ind.) – Some local elementary students are getting a lesson about geography and kindness.

Mt. Carmel School second graders are participating in the “Hearts Across America” program where a social media post has led to hundreds of cards.

Second grade teacher Amy Cowen put out a social media post asking people from other states to mail cards to the school.

Her class was hoping to get 25 cards but the idea exceeded expectations as they’ve received hundreds.

So far, the class has received cards from 42 states and at least six different countries.

Each card contains some ‘fun facts’ about the state or country, and also some kind words for the elementary students.

Cowen says she plans to make this an annual tradition.
