New documentary will explore old North Dearborn Elementary

(WEST HARRISON, Ind.) -- A filmmaker is working on a documentary that explores the former North Dearborn Elementary.


Alex Chrzanowski filmed inside the school in 2021 just weeks before demolition began.

"It was filmed for that final memory and curiosity and with the intention to preserve the memory and 2 years to demolition beginning you’ll get to see the very end as it was and as it fades away," Chrzanowski told The 812.


The documentary is set to be released in mid-December. Chrzanowski said he's making the film for former students, staff and community members who are curious about the building.


The building opened in 1959 as North Dearborn High School before becoming the elementary school in 1973. It closed in 2015.
